Remember the days of Lip Smackers before we all went green and non-toxic? Yeah, me too. I loved that chapstick when I was a kid. All the crazy cool flavors I got to pick from made my little kid heart so happy. Who knew I was also putting on some crazy, not-so-cool chemicals, dyes and hydrogenated oils. Gross.
Cotton Candy flavor ^^ Ew.
After my cancer ordeal at 19, I changed everything and began purging my old ways for new and improved ones. Enter Burt’s Bees. If I remember correctly, I think I first discovered Burt’s Bees at Target and it was love at first swipe. At $2.99 a tube though, that can get spendy. I never thought much about the price because I was a single college student and a tube can last a long time, but fast forward 14 years with a hubs and two kiddos who love to use my chapstick at all times, throw in an obsession with making all things DIY with my lady friends — because let’s face it, wine + making cool, non-toxic, practical shiz is FUN — and an inevitable, at-home chapstick-making hobby was born!!!!
Now, I must impart my lip balm-making wisdom onto you!

1/4th cup avocado oil (if you can’t do avocado oil you can try pure jojoba, grapeseed, olive, or almond oil)
10 drops Vitamin E oil
14 drops YL Peppermint Essential Oil (do not use grocery store oils!)
In a double broiler or you can use a Pyrex glass measuring cup and set it in hot hot water, add in all of your ingredients except your Peppermint. Stir occasionally until melted. You will lose the constituents (what make your therapeutic EOs work in and on the body) if you add your Peppermint to super hot liquid because they are heat sensitive, so wait to add those last! Set your double broiler aside over a cool, empty pot and wait a few minutes until your mixture cools a bit. Stir while you wait. Then, add your Peppermint essential oil. Stir and pour into lip balm tubes! That’s it. Easy, huh? This recipe will make A LOT of lip balm tubes. I am not sure exactly how many tubes because I forget to count every time I’ve made batches, but it’s a good amount.
SPREAD THE LOVE
